Self-preservation through Self-love

Self-love is an extremely important quality for any people seeking to stand within their own power and to heal from the issues of daily life, and this can be one of the most difficult journeys in life, some adults do not reach this point until they are retired and some not at all, unfortunately. A person who has mastered self-love has strong boundaries, is willing to be selfless and generous without the extreme of self-sacrificing and recognises their self-worth regardless of the input of others who may seek to bring them down.

The typical qualities of a person with little to no self-love, what we may also call self-esteem is:

- Self-sacrifices by burning the candle at both ends

- Aids others to the point of exhaustion, unintentionally allowing exploitation

- Usually refuses to accept that they are being exploited – will justify this

- Refuses to seek out help for fear of burdening others

- Self-destructive behaviours that gratify the senses – drugs, indulgences that cause harm

- Openly express low opinions of themselves, not wanting to find love or accepting it

- Always showing love and support to everybody but themselves

- Refuses to accept praise and reward from others

This is not a set, or standard list that all people with low self-worth will exhibit but it is some of the common traits among people I have engaged with and that I, too, experienced as a young adult.

What causes a person to have such a low opinion of themselves? The causes usually are one or more of the following:

- Physical mistreatment

- Mental abuse, such as bullying

- Emotional neglect from a parent/guardian

- Abuse in romantic relationships

- Social, academic or professional exclusion

- Energetic imbalances and blockages

- Blocked or corrupted heart chakra

- Psychic attack from other people

- Spiritual entities projecting harmful energy

Here is a brief list of activities that you can work on that will begin to give you that strength to accept your self-worth and create that strong boundary that is necessary:

1. Accept that it is OK to say “No” to others if you do not want to do something

2. Consider that your desire to preserve yourself can infact help others grow and become more independent in some circumstances

3. Stay away from the “Negative Nelly” and the “Doubting Dick” who may hinder your passions or bring you down

4. Establish your own daily, weekly or monthly ritual of spoiling yourself with your favourite foods, activities, bath salts, oils or whatever makes you happy

5. Reflect upon all of the small and big victories or achievements in your life and use these memories to propel you forward

6. Begin a gratitude ritual whereby you begin to write down in a journal all of the things you are grateful for, this will give you a rush of positive emotions that will help guard your heart

7. Try your absolute best to stay away from narcissists and other abusers

8. Similarly to the above techniques, a visualisation also does wonders to help heal your heart, you can try the following technique and see if it benefits you

Meditation to heal your heart:

You can perform this visualisation as part of your energy clearing, ask your spirit guides to show you the true quality of your heart. Ask them to show any cracks, breaks, bruises, missing pieces or foreign objects and try to see it in your mind.

After you have seen the quality of your heart, a terrific ally to call out to is the Rose, the Rose spirit does not just assist in finding romantic love but healing the heart of all loves. Politely call out to the Rose spirit as follows:

“Lady Rose, come to me,

Heal my heart, free I will be”

Visualise the Rose above your heart area, begin to see its beautiful pink or red essence flowing down into your heart, see it filling any spaces or re-structuring lost pieces to bring forth healing. Feel the warmth and comfort of the Rose strengthening your heart.

This can be quite an emotional experience but it is necessary to heal the heart in one fashion or another. You do not need to do this technique daily but once or twice a week is a good grounding. Each time this meditation comes to an end, give your gratitude to the Rose spirit and bid the essence farewell. I would suggest planting a Rose out your garden to honour the spirit and as a pleasant reminder of this friendship.

Blessed Be. XxX
