Embracing the Divine Masculine after being hurt by traditional religion

One big thing I see with newcomers seeking the divine through Paganism, but particularly Witchcraft and subsequently Wicca, is the absence of the divine masculine. This is not at all a problem, or a judgement, it is a statement. In the early 2000's I approached Witchcraft with a deep seated resentment of the divine masculine or “God” because of my own relationship to Christianity, my “life style” and just the entire experience of being a Witch in a traditional religion, yet to blossom. If this is the path you painfully, and regretfully had to walk, keep reading.

This blog is simply a small gift to you and the divine masculine. A comment that if your experience of the divine masculine was fear, anxiety, concern about judgement, a feeling of exclusion for not “fitting” and the damning threat of hell, it is no wonder you felt resentment. This may have nothing at all to do with your family's interpretation, or even your Church or other establishments interpretation of traditional religion, the view of divinity as “male”, but how it manifested for you personally at the time, and what led you away.

There are many Pagan religions that hold sacred the masculine in life, the ancient Egyptian religion, the Greek and Roman traditions and also Heathenry – the native religion of Scandinavia. Many Witches do gravitate more towards nature or the “Goddess”, and either deliberately leave behind the divine masculine, or they simply do not feel a connection and that is fine.

This blog is aimed more at those hurt by their experience of “Him”. It will be hard, and you will feel resistance, but my advice is try to heal that connection to the divine masculine, and begin to connect to what many of us perceive to be the true divine masculine, the gentle presence, the firm mantle of masculine protection, the gentle hand that guides and not threatens, feel him manifest through nature as the Horned God or the Sun God – or some other guise you are drawn toward.

Feel him as the gentle breeze on your face, the sun beaming down, the beat in your heart and as the fruit and grain growing to keep us fed. Truly call out to him in a meditation, ask him to take away the threat and fear of damnation and you will begin to feel a gradual lifting of a burden, of that abusive energy that caused you harm, this will help you heal this connection and focus on a more beneficent and kind being, one with whom you either share your practice in future, or you do not.

Light a white, gold or yellow candle, burn a fragrance that you find empowering and sweet, like Orange peel on a charcoal disc or Orange essential oil for example, then relax yourself with each breath and when you are ready, call out to him and begin to feel his presence.

“I call out to the divine masculine,

To the Horned God, to Father Nature,

I call out to the Sun God, to the life-giver,

Please fill my heart with your light,

And cast out the grief that haunts me,

Hail and welcome, blessed be”

You may even hear the animals around you, in your home and outside, begin to chirp or sing louder, as they too sense his presence growing more obvious. After your meditation ends a simple thank you will be enough to show gratitude, but you will likely feel your heart swell as you begin this healing journey.

I wish you luck on this healing journey, an outgoing comment, you do not need to do this to be a Witch, you do not need to work with the divine masculine, but it is healing and empowering to at least dump the trauma of the fear, anxiety and guilt you can feel leaving a fear-based religion behind to walk the wonderful path of the Witch.
